Health-conscious employees were initially uneasy about coming into work due to the COVID-19. Now, there is another concern: monkeypox,
We’ve closely followed CDC guidelines and fact checked everything to provide the best cleaing guidelines to prevent a monkeypox outbreak at your facility. Here is what every facility manager should know about monkeypox.
About Monkeypox
Hotter temperatures have resulted in an increase of prevalence in tropical illnesses. Monkeypox is a common affliction in the ape family (REVISE).
Though monkeypox has been around since the 1950s, the first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970. It was mostly reported in central and west African countries. Most 2022 cases have been reported in people outside of Africa as a result of international travel.
Signs and Symptoms
Monkeypox typically manifests as flu-like symptoms, with rashes that look like pimples and blisters developing 1-4 days later.. These rashes may be located on any part of the body, including face, hands, feed, chest, and genitalia. Rashes are highly infectious and may go through several stages:
Onset
Development
Blistering
Itching
Scabbing
Healing
Other symptoms of monkeypox may include:
Chills
Fever
Muscle pain
Fatigue
Swelling of the lymph nodes
Headache
Respiratory
Symptoms typically for 3 weeks while infection lasts 2-4 weeks.
Transmission Mode
Transmission of monkeypox is typically made through diect or indirect contact with infectious body fluids. It is also possible through aerosols created from infected oral excretion.
Preventative Measures
While monkeypox is a valid concern, it is not a high level threat to employees and operations. Monkeypox is mostly spread through direct skin-to-skin contact with infected tissue material. If your company already upholds cleaning standards for COVID-19 prevention, your faciitiy is already doing a great job. We recommend that you and your employees keep these tips in mind:
Employees that are not feeling well should stay at home. This is the best preventative measure to contain any possible infections.
Wipe down all surface counters in common areas after use. These are key areas where non-skin contact is most likely to result in an infection.
Employees should wash their hands frequently. Sometimes, the simplest solution is the most effective one. Proper hand washing helps kill 99.9% of all germs.
Maintaining COVID-19 preventative measures will ensure that your facility is monkeypox ready. However, certain facilities may want to take extra precaution, especially if they have high traffic.
